 Hidden Valley is a renowned American dressing brand founded in 1954 by Steve Henson with his wife Gayle after purchasing a large amount of land in the mountains to start a ranch for tourists outside of Santa Barbara, California. Steve introduced his signature salad dressing, a tangy blend of buttermilk, savory herbs, and spices, to his entrees. Guests always wanted to shop and take home. That’s how Hidden Valley Ranch dressing was invented.

Hidden Valley Ranch Flavors

The world of Hidden Valley condiments is quite diverse and has a wide variety of flavors that you will love.

The main idea product, and the most popular, is Original Ranch and within its range of flavors is avocado, bacon, buttermilk, cucumber, southwest (chipotle), coleslaw, and spicy (habanero). There are also “crazy” flavors like pizza and ranch taco flavors. For vegan tastes, there is also an option, definitely Hidden Valley thinks of everyone!

The range of secret sauces also has several flavors (honey mustard BBQ, Spicy, smokehouse, original garlicky buttermilk).

Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Vs. Dip

Ranch dressing and ranch dip are identical in flavor. However, they have different purposes.

 Ranch dressing is typically used on salads or added to a sandwich for added flavor instead of using typical mayonnaise. Ranch dip is used to dip as an informal appetizer such as chips or corn triangles, carrot, and celery sticks among many others.

 If you are one of those people who use powdered ranch seasoning for baked potatoes, quickly season meat or chicken, or simply season some good popcorn to watch a movie with pleasure, the ranch seasoning shaker is the best. You only have to place one or two spoons of that powder or sprinkle directly on whatever you want and that’s it! easy and delicious!

Hidden Valley Restaurant-Style Homestyle Ranch

If you are one of those who like to prepare these sauces, dips, and dressings at home, here I have the solution for you. Prepare the ranch dry mix at home without any complications, most or almost all the ingredients are commonly used at home.

 Ingredients of the ranch dry mix:

  • 1/2 cup Dry Buttermilk. 
  • 1 tbsp Dried Parsley Flakes.
  • 1 tsp Dried Minced Onions.
  • 1 tsp Dill Weed.
  • 1 tsp Garlic Salt.
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder.
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder.
  • 1 tsp MSG (monosodium glutamate) optional.
  • 1/2 tsp Salt.
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar.
  • 1/4 tsp Pepper.

 All you have to do is blend in a food processor or blender and store in an airtight container. When you need to use it you just have to use 2 tbsp of this instead of 1 packet of mix.

We now have our Hidden Valley base, but how to use it in the different types of preparations?

People who want to make their use fast due to lack of time only use mayonnaise and maybe a little garlic, but you can make the combinations you want according to your flavor needs by adding bacon, lemon zest, cilantro, jalapeno, avocado, or maybe some spice, it is up to the requirement of needed it.

For Dressings

    To make the dressing you only need:

  • 1 Cup of Mayonnaise.
  • 1/2 Cup of Sour Cream.
  • 1/2 Cup Buttermilk.
  • 2 Tbsp of the previously prepared Ranch dry mix.

 First, whisk the buttermilk with the Ranch powder until well combined, then add the rest of the ingredients and whisk again everything to a smooth texture. Leave it in the refrigerator to rest for 30 minutes. Enjoy and dip with the dish of your choice. If you don't have buttermilk just use 3 tbsp of liquid milk.

For Dips

    To make the dip you only need:

  • 1 Cup of Cream Cheese.
  • 1 Tbsp of Sour Cream.
  • 3 Tbsp Buttermilk.
  • 2 Tbsp of the previously prepared Ranch dry mix.

 Same the dressing, first we have to whisk the buttermilk with the Ranch powder, then combine well with the cream cheese and sour cream. You can add chives, corn, bacon, or whatever you like, also mushrooms or pickles to make it more delicious!

Greek Yogurt Ranch

Nothing is more pleasant than the taste of homemade sauces, apart from the fact that they are healthier because they do not contain any type of preservative, and that we can make the amounts according to what we use in our meals without having any food waste.

    To make the dressing you only need:

  • 1 Cup of Mayonnaise.
  • 2 Tbsp of the previously prepared Ranch dry mix.
  • 1 Tbsp of fresh chives.

 Mix the Greek yogurt with the tablespoon of the dry Ranch mixture until combined very well, serve and garnish with fresh chives. It is important to know that this type of sauce have a shelf life according to the expiration date of the yogurt and you must keep it in a container or jar with its respective lid.

Avocado Restaurant-Style Homestyle Ranch

As we all know, avocado is a fruit (yes, it is a fruit, just like eggplant, tomato, cucumber, zucchini and pepper)  that should be eaten once cut, as it tends to darken (oxidize) easily. To avoid this oxidation process and make it slower, so that our sauce or dip maintains the beautiful color that characterizes the avocado, we simply must use a little lemon juice or vinegar.

    To make the avocado ranch you only need:

  • 1 Avocado (around 1 or 1 ½ Avocado).
  • ½  Cup of Sour cream (or Greek yogurt).
  • 1 tsp of white vinegar or lemon juice.
  • 2 Tbsp of the previously prepared Ranch dry mix.
  • salt (optional).
  • 1 Tbsp of fresh chives (optional).

Place the ingredients in a food processor and process until well mixed, taking care to scrape all sides of the processor container to avoid large pieces of avocado. Taste and adjust the amount of salt if necessary. If you want this sauce to have a more liquid consistency then add a couple of tablespoons of milk to the mixture. If you need it to be even more liquid, keep adding milk. Garnish with chives and taste your way.
